About Us
We founded Tanuki Sushi Hawaii out of a deep love for real food, for food that is fresh, healthy, and authentic. We only use real ingredients here at Tanuki Sushi Hawaii. Fresh fish is sourced locally or straight from reliable suppliers from Japan. Our ingredients and garnishes that we use to complement our fish are of the highest quality and are also sourced locally. We make our own sauces and marinades in house using only the freshest ingredients. We strive to make each and every dish a wholesome expression of our love for food, life, and living.
Tanuki Sushi Hawaii was born in 2017 as a little hole in the wall spot over at the Windward Plaza strip mall. Over the years, we have managed to maintain our small town hole-in-the-wall feel with five-star quality food, providing that wonderful feeling of finding a well-hidden secret treasure where no one would normally look. We offer bar and table seating for individuals and groups, offering flexibility for small and large groups alike.

All of the ingredients we use here at Tanuki Sushi Hawaii are selected with great care by our Sushi Chef, Shawn, regularly. We stock our restaurant kitchen in much the same way that we would stock our home kitchen (if we ate sushi all the time), with regular deliveries of fresh ingredients that we select ourselves, at market on a regular basis.
In addition to our menu items, we also offer daily specials inspired by seasonal ingredients, the weather and how we are feeling. We are always on the lookout for new sources of ideas and inspiration, so when we come across new species of fish or seafood or new ways to prepare sushi that would highlight the main ingredient's natural flavor, we jump at the opportunity and showcase that for our customers to enjoy.
